Mondsee

Region Mondsee-Irrsee

Welcome to one of the most beautiful golf regions in Austria! MondSeeLand is a paradise for golf enthusiasts, sporty types and culture vultures.

The MondSeeLand: an idyll characterised by the deep blue waters of the Mondsee and Irrsee lakes and nicknamed the pearl of the Salzkammergut.

This endearing region offers fun and relaxation in and around the water, extensive hikes and cycle tours, unforgettable excursions to art and cultural treasures and a wide range of sporting activities. Families with children get their money's worth here, as do single travellers and couples, as the atmosphere is hospitable, warm and simply wonderfully cosy.

There is plenty to discover here. The 1060 metre high Drachenwand, for example, is definitely worth a climb, as the view from the top is fantastic. Not forgetting the boats that invite you to take a romantic cruise on Lake Mondsee.

And then there are the many ‘happy places’ that are sure to boost your happiness hormones. Find your own personal place to take a deep breath: perhaps the enchanting Lindenbauernkapelle chapel, the Almplatzl on the Hochalm or the mysterious Celtic hill.

And of course you can also play golf at Mondsee. Very well indeed, because the two courses in the region are simply marvellous.

Golf Drachenwand Mondsee is one of the most beautiful 9-hole golf courses in Austria and is located just above Lake Mondsee on a wonderfully sunny high plateau. The fairways have been laid out very harmoniously and, above all, extremely fairly, so that even inexperienced golfers can enjoy an unadulterated game. Of course, the course also includes a driving range, practice greens for pitching, putting and chipping, a sufficient number of car parking spaces and a small but fine restaurant that offers an exquisite mix of Austrian, Mediterranean and international dishes.

The golf club at Mondsee is no less attractive. Don't be surprised if your gaze wanders off again and again as you play, because the view of the nearby Drachenwand and the mountains of the Salzkammergut is indescribably beautiful. The Golfclub am Mondsee has 18 flat holes and skilfully positioned bunkers. Let the golf school initiate you into the secrets of the game or use the modern practice facilities: two practice greens for chipping and pitching, a large putting green and two practice bunkers are available to you without restriction.

Culture in Mondseeland

Art, culture and history are very important in MondSeeLand. No wonder, as people lived and worked on the shores of Lake Mondsee as long as 6000 years ago. These people have left us a real treasure: a pile-dwelling settlement, which was officially recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2011. It lies beneath the surface of the water and is therefore not visible, but you can still learn about the history of the people who lived there: just drop by the pile-dwelling pavilion in Mondsee!

The Basilica of St Michael is located clearly above the water. The former Benedictine collegiate church is visible from afar with its 52 metre high towers and impresses with its façade, which features the figures of St Peter and St Paul, as well as its precious interior.

One of the musical highlights is undoubtedly the Mondsee Music Days, which bring the summer to a close. They were first held in 1989 and have since become an integral part of the annual cultural calendar. Established musicians as well as young up-and-coming artists showcase their skills here.
