Bad Ischl, the heart of the Salzkammergut: Hardly any other holiday region combines traditions that have become so beloved in a fascinating way with a sophisticated flair. Look forward to the magical ambience and a historic golf club!
It was 1853 when Franz Joseph celebrated his engagement with Elisabeth in Bavaria in Bad Ischl. The enchanting health resort continues to exude a wonderfully romantic charm and a very special touch of nostalgia today, even if time has not stood still. The numerous hiking trails are joined by extensive bike paths and running trails, and the picturesque Pfarrgasse offers pretty shops that invite you to take a stroll. The Imperial Villa with the Kaiserpark, the former tea house of Empress Sisi, the Calvary Church and the former estate of Franz Lehár: There is so much to discover in Bad Ischl, and numerous buildings are still reminiscent of the time when people didn’t go on holiday but just enjoyed the summer air.
The fact that golf is so important in Bad Ischl is no coincidence: After all, the spa is home to one of the most prestigious golf clubs.
The Bad Ischl golf club officially bears the name Golfclub Salzkammergut. It was founded in 1933. This was an event of great importance as the club has had a decisive influence on Austrian golf. We can look back not only on a long history, but also on a significant one: In 1937, Edward, the Duke of Windsor played here – at a time when golf was still relatively unknown in Europe! The aristocratic player was also deeply impressed by the fantastic mountains and the deep blue lakes of the Salzkammergut.
Today the 18-hole venue is used for many international events. The fairways were beautifully integrated into the natural landscape.
The “Ischler greens” enjoy an excellent reputation worldwide and are always well maintained. A spacious driving range with chipping green and practice bunker invite you to practice and train, and if the weather uncharacteristically does not play along, there are plenty of covered tees available. Before or after a round, you can feast in the Club Restaurant where the first-class gourmet kitchen is known for its creativity and genius.
