Golfclub DRACHENWAND
The small golf jewel in the Salzkammergut
A well-maintained nine-hole, professionally-designed course with a picturesque landscape
The demanding fairways lie before the fairy tale mountain backdrop, in a picturesque landscape with a view of Mondsee Lake. The course is one of the most beautiful golf courses in Austria.
This little golf jewel, between Thalgau and Mondsee, located not far from the festival city of Salzburg, offers breath-taking views of the Drachenwand, Schober, Schaberg and Mondseeberg mountains.
The golf course was designed by South African Marc Muller, based on an idea by Jack Nicklaus, using the example of the famous Cayman Island course. It has a challenging design and is fair for golfers of all skill levels.
In the year 2010, the course was made even more attractive by expanding a par-five hole with a new trench. By doing so, this fairway, with its curved bunkers and rolling greens, appears very picturesque in the landscape.
The well-maintained clubhouse, with its public restaurant, radiates cosiness and is very popular with its guests and members as a convivial meeting point. One enjoys excellent traditional Italian cuisine, fresh wines from Italy and, of course, the wonderful view from the generous club terrace overlooking the golf course and mountain panorama. Here, you can relax well and have a chat with a small group.
The Villa Drachenwand family-owned golf hotel is adjoining. The 11 spacious wellness rooms and south-facing balconies with views of the sunny golf landscape make it an oasis of quiet for golfers and non-golfers.
The clubhouse, restaurant with conservatory and the golf hotel lie on a sunny plateau above Mondsee Lake. Drachenwand Mountain is majestically throned across from it and in the distance, one sees Gaisberg Mountain, the local mountain for the city of Salzburg.
The Golf Academy is directed by PGA Pro Albin Thaller, whose philosophy is: “There are as many perfect swings in practice as there are different people. I want to help you find your perfect swing and improve your golf game without any radical changes, so you don’t lose your enjoyment of this great sport.” ÖGV proficiency-card courses and topic courses for advanced players are also offered. And there are special children's training sessions and the tried-and-tested Children and Youth Week in July.
